TYPES OF BODY CONTOURING PROCEDURES
There are two major types of body contouring treatments:
- Non-surgical treatments
- Surgical treatments
Once you visit Dr. Kia for a consultation, he will examine your body to understand the extensiveness of the treatment needed and will advise you whether the surgical or the non-surgical route is the way to go.
Any person who wishes to improve the shape and size of their body and who has a certain amount of elasticity in the skin is eligible for the body contouring treatments. However, patients who suffer from any dermatological conditions, who are restricted from certain cosmetic or medical treatments and those who are pregnant or are planning to start a family are not eligible for the body contouring procedure.
It’s best that you consult Dr. Kia before you make a decision.
NON-SURGICAL BODY CONTOURING PROCEDURES
In these treatments, doctors use completely non-invasive or minimally-invasive treatment techniques to address the excessive, unwanted fat and sagging skin on the patient’s body. These non-surgical procedures are perfect for people seeking minimally invasive body contouring or who cannot or do not wish to undergo a surgical procedure. Some non-surgical treatments are as follows.
Cryolipolysis aka CoolSculpting
If heat isn’t something you are comfortable with, then the Cryolipolysis procedure will be the ideal non-invasive treatment that will help with non-invasive body contouring. Commercially called CoolSculpting, a panel is placed on the part of the body to be treated, which emits cold waves which are designed to freeze fat cells and break them down. Once frozen, the fat cells die and leave behind a beautiful, thin and contoured body.
Cosmetic dermal injectables
Dermal fillers that contain deoxycholic acid can be used to melt the fat cells in the treated area and then hyaluronic acid fillers can be used to add the required volume in the areas of the body where the patient needs it.
GET RID OF STUBBORN FAT WITH COOLSCULPTING
CoolSculpting is a clinically proven procedure with countless numbers of satisfied patients. It freezes away unwanted fat and is a revolutionary fat reduction procedure that is completely non-invasive. This procedure targets resistant areas of body fat that exercise and diet have failed to improve.
CoolSculpting, or cryolipolysis, is a treatment which kills the frozen, unwanted fat cells without harming the surface of your skin. This breakdown of fat takes place over the course of a few months and gradually leads to a reduction in the size of the treatment areas. Areas of the body that can be treated include the abdomen, flank, upper back, underneath the buttocks, arms, and thighs.
Ideal candidates for CoolSculpting include women and men, in good overall health, who suffer from stubborn pockets of fat that are difficult to remove despite dieting and exercise. Individuals who are more than 30 pounds overweight are not valid candidates for CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting does not require any invasive surgery, and the entire experience is generally pain-free. After your treatment you will be free to return to your normal daily activities.
SURGICAL BODY CONTOURING PROCEDURES
Surgical body contouring involves charting the areas of the body that need to be surgically trimmed and removed to give the body a beautiful contour and shape. Here, the doctor will place the patient under anesthesia, cut along the marked portions of the patient’s body, resect the sagging and unwanted fat, tissues and skin and sculpt the body by gently spreading the remaining fat evenly around the patient’s body to give it the desired shape and contouring. He will then tightly stitch back the skin together using skin-friendly, medical-grade sutures.
The most common body contouring surgical procedures that patients can choose from are:
SURGICAL BODY CONTOURING PROCEDURES
The surgical body contouring procedure involves charting the areas of the body that need to be surgically trimmed and removed to give the body a beautiful contour and shape.
There are six types of body contouring surgical procedures that patients can choose from:
The facelift is a surgical body contouring procedure that is used to target various areas of the face. The sagging cheeks, jowls, and turkey neck can be corrected using the facelift. Here, the surgeon resects the sagging and weak facial muscles and loose skin and gives the face a more rounded and put-together look.
The arm lift is perfect for anyone who has excessive amounts of fat on the upper arms. Here, the unwanted portion of the fat on the arm is surgically removed and the arm is shaped to look more aesthetic and shapely.
If sagging breasts are a problem, then the breast lift will set things right immediately. This surgery can also help give volume to breast muscles that have been flattened due to age. Breast lifts can be jointly performed with other surgical procedures such as breast enlargement to give your chest a more defined and shapely appearance.
Tummy tucks are excellent if you have excessive sagging skin on the abdomen or have a large layer of fat around the belly. This surgery is a safe and easy way to get washboard abs in no time. It will also help new moms regain their pre-baby bodies quickly and easily.
Lower body lift
The lower body lift is designed to contour the abdomen, buttocks, inner and outer thighs. The weak muscles and loose skin are surgically resected, the lower body is shaped aesthetically, and the skin is tightened to give the lower body a more toned and contoured appearance.
This is a surgical procedure where excessive fat from one part of the body is removed and pumped into another part of the body which needs it. Usually, the fat is taken from the buttocks and the thighs and used in other parts of the body to give the patient a shapely body.
Liposuction is the most traditional of all minimally-invasive, non-surgical body contouring treatments, where the doctor will insert a long, thin needle into the fat cell, liquefy it with a chemical and suck out the fat from the body. He will repeat this process until all the unwanted fat is removed.
Laser lipolysis uses heat energy generated from a high-intensity laser to break down the fat cells in the body. Here, the high-intensity laser light is directed towards the areas of the body to be contoured, until the molecular bonds between the fat cells are broken, and the fat cells are destroyed inside the body.
Red light therapy and ultrasound are two other non-invasive body contouring treatments that use light and sonic rays respectively of varying lengths to heat the fat cells, liquefying them and destroying them.
Recovery care after the body contouring procedure
Once the treatments are finished, you will notice tenderness, bruising, redness, and swelling on the part of the body treated. In case of surgical body contouring, you will have a fresh wound from the incision. The incision will heal and dry up within a week, and the stitches will be removed soon after.
Patients are advised not to lift heavy weights, bend or stretch when the stitches are still in. Apply ice on the treated areas of the skin to soothe the swelling and redness. Your doctor will also provide painkillers to help manage pain.
The results achieved by body contouring team last from anywhere between six months to three years depending on the extensiveness of the treatment. Patients who have undergone the surgical treatments needn’t do so again and can choose a non-surgical treatment to supplement the benefits a year after the treatment.
