Skin damage is inevitable when your skin is exposed to sun, pollution, smoke, chemical products, poor nutrition and such. Once the skin is damaged, no amount of home remedies will help you get it back. Skin damage will lead to early aging of the skin, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, skin discoloration and so on. How can you get your skin healthier and looking younger? Dr. Kianoush Shakib suggests the following facial skin care treatments to rejuvenate your skin to get younger flawless skin.

MICRODERMABRASION

Microdermabrasion is an FDA approved minimally invasive treatment which uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface to gently scrub the thick outer layer of your facial skin to rejuvenate it. Another technique gives the same outcome by spraying fine particles of aluminum oxide or sodium bicarbonate on your skin with a vacuum or suction. This treatment is suitable for almost all skin types. You can choose to get this procedure if you have:

  • Fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation
  • Enlarged pores and blackheads
  • Brown spots, age spots, acne, and acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Melasma and skin damage
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Dull looking skin complexion

FACIAL EXTRACTION

Facial extraction is a process of clearing a clogged or compacted pore, often performed as a part of the facial. If you have blackheads, pimples, pores or pustules, extraction is a treatment option for you. At the Allergy and Skin Spa, the extraction procedure is performed with the utmost care. Your skin is cleansed before a desincrustation fluid or enzyme is applied. Your skin is treated with steam to make it soft. This process prepares the skin for easier extraction. A magnifying glass is used under a bright light to see the pores that need cleaning easily. Dr. Kianoush Shakib will use an ultrasonic device known as a skin scrubber to loosen the impacted pores. Gentle pressure is applied around the pores to extract the content.

CHEMICAL PEELS AT OUR BRENTWOOD DERMATOLOGIST

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the texture of the skin. It involves the controlled application of a toxic chemical solutions to your skin which produces controlled tissue death. Your skin will regenerate after the peel. The desired depth of the peel is dependent on the condition to be treated.

A chemical peel is used to treat uneven pigmentation, sun damaged skin, or an actinic keratosis which is a potential early sign of skin cancer. They may also be used to treat acne scarring. If you have a dark skin tone, you are suggested against using this treatment as the pigmentation of the newly healed skin may be substantially different from your current skin color.

Dr. Kianoush Shakib will begin with the application of acetone or alcohol on your skin. The peeling solution is then applied evenly over your skin for a specific amount of time. The application of a neutralizing solution halts the chemical process. Bandages are applied over the treated area before you are sent home to recover. You will be advised to avoid the sun during the healing time.

OXYGEN THERAPY

Oxygen facials combat the visible signs of skin aging. They are designed to nourish the skin and promote collagen growth. The oxygen facial delivers oxygen to the deepest layers of your skin and makes it glow. It involves spraying highly concentrated molecules of oxygen into the outer layer of your skin called the epidermis. The oxygen is infused with essential nutrients, botanical extracts, vitamins, and minerals. Oxygen therapy boosts collagen growth, detoxifies the skin and heals acne. It moisturizes the skin and gives you radiant skin. It can also be used to treat uneven skin tone. It has no side effects, no downtime and offers immediate results.

COSMELAN PEEL FOR MELASMA

Cosmelan is a depigmentation agent. It acts by decreasing melanin from your skin which is responsible for darkening of the skin and contributes to melasma. It is a chemical peel which is commonly used to treat pigmentation issues by inhibiting tyrosinase (an enzyme) in the melanin formation process. It contributes to decreasing the melanin synthesis and in turn, reduces melanin formation. Cosmelan can also be used on other parts of the body. It is an excellent treatment option for harsher skin conditions such as melasma and hyperpigmentation.
