Blotchy, sun damaged skin with pigmentations, red lines, and broken capillaries are some of the concerns preventing flawless skin. However, today there are several treatments to get that flawless skin that you have long desired. For improved quality and luster of your skin, Dr. Kianoush Shakib at The Allergy and Skin Spa recommends the photofacial. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to set up a consultation.

A photofacial is a treatment that uses intense light applied in a series of gentle pulses over the facial skin that needs treatment. The light penetrates through your skin. It is absorbed by brown spots and any abnormally dilated red vessels in your skin. Photofacials boosts collagen and lightens the appearance of blemishes. The brown spots initially become darker and then flake off from your skin. Your body absorbs broken capillaries within a few days after the treatment.

There are two types of photofacials

  • Light emitting diode (LED), acts on the outer layer of the skin epidermis, and it is suitable for minor skin problems.
  • Intense pulsed light (IPL) affects a deeper layer of the skin and helps in treating serious skin conditions.

Based on your skin problems, Dr. Kianoush Shakib will recommend the best treatment option for your skin.

You can use photofacials to achieve flawless skin. This form of skin therapy has its own set of benefits that include the following.

  • It will give you smoother skin with even skin tone.
  • It helps reduce early signs of aging, age spots, sun spots, sun damaged skin, uneven pigmentation, large pores, and dull complexion.
  • Photofacials are used in treatment against rosacea, red flushing skin, and broken capillaries.
  • You can resume regular activities immediately after treatment.
  • There is minimal discomfort during treatment

Hyperpigmentation is a skin disorder that affects the color of your skin caused by damage to a pigment called melanin. The damage is mostly caused by exposure to sun and poor nutrition among other factors. Dr. Kianoush Shakib will recommend using Intense pulsed light to treat pigmentation disorders. IPL targets the brown spots and works to improve sunspots, age spots, dull complexions, and uneven pigmentation. It uses a range of wavelengths of light to target these spots that occur due to several years of exposure to the sun. The heat from the IPL breaks down the pigment into tiny particles. The Pigment cells absorb the light energy. The heat from the light energy destroys the unwanted pigment to clear up freckles and other spots. You will be recommended repeat treatment based on the severity of the damage in your skin.

Broken capillaries are tiny blood vessels that are enlarged and are visible beneath the surface of your skin. They usually occur on the side of your nose, cheek, and chin and sometimes on your neck and d├ęcolletage. They are mostly caused by excessive sun exposure, hormonal changes during pregnancy and trauma to the skin. Broken capillaries can occur in all parts of the body and can be treated using IPL. IPL can be used anywhere on your body, but results may be less evident on uneven areas. If you suffer from thick, raised keloid scars you may not be a suitable candidate for IPL. Likewise, IPL is not recommended for people who have darker skin tones.

At the Allergy and Skin Spa, Dr. Kianoush Shakib will help determine the severity of the skin damage and recommend treatment accordingly. Optimum results from IPL have been found to occur after 3 to 6 treatment sessions. Treatment sessions are generally spaced about 1 month apart to let the skin heal between treatments.
